Welcome to the Community-engaged Adolescent Research for Equity (CARE) Lab. We are located in the Psychology Department at Wesleyan University. Our lab uses quantitative and qualitative methods to study how youth and young adults cope with and resist systems of oppression that shape their everyday lives. This includes research on ethnic-racial identity, sociopolitical development, racial socialization, and supportive adult-youth relationships, with a particular focus on immigrant youth and young adults.
We take a strength-based approach to understand the role of macrosystems (e.g., racism and other systems of oppression) and microsystems (e.g., school and home contexts) on youth and young adult psychosocial, civic, and academic outcomes.
